Artist Statement
“AfroBattles” is a performance score designed to teach children to admire kinky hair. In it, participants battle to see whose afro can hold more objects. “AfroBattles” is part of "SAY IT LOUD!: Performance Art Scores for the Young, Gifted, and Fabulous," a do-it-yourself series designed for black youth whose schools have lost art funding. Each score teaches the medium of performance art, explores black history or pop culture, and references a contemporary visual artist to introduce youth to their work. Other scores pictured include "Sit," "Brer Rabbit Day," and "Diva Dutch." Related sculptures are also pictured. www.aishacousins.com | www.BlackPresidentsDay.Blogspot.com

ocousins says: Your talent and creativity just seems to grow by leaps and bounds with each new project that you develop/execute, and with each 'past project' you recreate and 'fast forward'. I really love seeing you execute these performance pieces of yours. Well done!
LAC says: A smart thinker who is making performance art accessible to others without diluting its power.
garr91 says: Aisha is a very interesting performance and sculpture artist. She has a unique approach to engage her audience physically as well as mentally.
