Artist Statement

When I was a little girl, my favorite part of going out to dinner was the blank paper mat. Our family game was to make some nondescript mark on the paper and I would occupy my time “drawing something.” It rarely was a recognizable image, but that never seemed to matter. Painting now seems to have come around to those joyful moments. My recent paintings begin with a central image of a bird perched on a branch. This basic structure is a starting point to capture gesture in a space.
