Artist Statement

I gather words from books on science, the human heart and from conversations. In my recent work, ancient maps and modern satellite images are my reference points. I improvise and break the landscapes into structures of nets and fragmented grids. Using a graphic vocabulary derived from the reduction of information into symbols and mark making I attempt to create a fictional visual narrative that reflects how we inhabit and travel through the landscape. As I work I like to imagine myself as an urban planner, adapting the neighborhoods as needed.

The Guestbook

parabel says: Abby's meticulously performed art-maps prove the indistinguishableness between a micro-organism and let's say a large city. Or is it the blueprint of the universe? Or that of my brain cell that things that thought?

blackberryjones says: I was only there for a moment and I wanted to touch everything!
