Artist Statement

I make art for the same reason I grow food: to connect. A Flatbush community garden plot, a shared Gowanus studio: in these small spaces I draw a line between the possible and the actual; I bring everyday things together into nourishing, mysterious patterns.

When I’m in my studio, I work at my own pace, slow as a plant, not the breakneck city rate. Whorls and lines, eyes and hands—all emerge according to their own logic. My work is meditative, even incantatory. Each dot takes time; every color is a choice from someplace deeper, more amygdalar than conscious thought.
