Artist Statement

My work is based on an awareness of material and process that I develop through experimentation and play in the studio. I seek to draw out and elaborate upon the tension between the given and the chosen. Pieces often begin with a piece of discarded work in my studio. From there, I construct the new work governed by rules implicit in the chosen materials, choosing to stay within, bend, or completely break those rules. I try to keep things simple, leaving room for the viewer to engage in visual, mental play with the work.
