Artist Statement

My work consists of paintings and drawings on paper, canvas, wood and steel, and live projections. Observing life and utilizing found photos, I am interested in captivating moments that embody a sense of longing, and in human elements of resonant beauty, empathy, exhilaration, effusive power and fragility. I often convey the opposing experiences of aspiration and defeat, triumph and mortality, and sensuality and decay. Subjects are sometimes conveyed unmoored from their surroundings, rendering them both archetypal and strange. I focus on the distinctive characteristics of each medium with which I work, highlighting tensions between mechanical and human aspects within technique.
