Artist Statement

Kate Nielsen in a Brooklyn based painter. Her process involves building up layers of acrylic paint that are then peeled, cut, and reincorporated into a new form. She is interested in human nature, ritual, and fragility and has recently been making narrative based paintings inspired by survival tips she learns through word of mouth. They are illustrative worlds where man is myth and the landscape is imagined. While the landscapes are not of any one real place, they are inspired by the Western United States where Kate spent her childhood.
