Artist Statement

My work employs what has been discarded or overlooked as a means to discover beauty in unexpected places. I begin with collage, using our daily detritus: discarded paper napkins, receipts, toilet paper roll wrappers, envelopes, newspapers and such, and after this foundation has been established, I finish with graphite, wax medium, and oil paint. Through the physical layering of form and color I try to catch a glimpse of a new way of seeing that exists beyond the physical, a momentary opening into a space overlooked. I work from my studio in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.
