Artist Statement

My investigation combines graphic, Op-Art aesthetics with invented hybridizations that contain human-animal-mechanical parts. I create these iconic Chimera figures by collaging together digital photographs of various components culled from the internet, from which I make a unique drawing. I enjoy exploring the interaction of different materials and the boundary between abstraction and representation.

My placement and transfer drawing of each figure by hand builds an image through a systematic process that is unique to each painting. The repetition of shape combined with intense optical color relationships dissolve into a complex pattern and create a visually intense, visceral experience.
