Artist Statement

In my work I converge old with new through weaving, embroidery, and painting. Inspirations ranging from tribal art and textiles to the Bauhaus to native american rugs guide me as I transform primal aspects of handmade craft into a contemporary aesthetic. My process is intuitive and begins with a formal idea, inspired by natural patterns like creases or rusted metal. The repetition of weaving row upon row lets me follow an improvisational and experimental approach, a rhythm echoed in my paintings. No aesthetic hierarchy guides me, other than a desire to create beauty from whatever imperfect materials are at hand.
