Artist Statement

Noel is a painter interested in the values on display in the woven fabric of our ever expanding notions of ‘landscape.’ He believes there is an opportunity in looking closely at the landscape—not as a distinct other, but as an environment that we are always in and of. Perhaps in acknowledging this connection and exploring it through art, we can make steps toward a more responsible ecology of place.

greenberger says: Noel brings new life into the oft-treaded road of landscape painting. There's a tension between the urban and natural landscapes he depicts that says something profound about our role in nature- it's not good, it's not bad, but it's definitely a force to be reckoned with. In Noel's paintings, the world isn't "pretty" or "ugly" but both, somehow, at the same time.

joanlin2012 says: Without fail, I always leave impressed by your work. I enjoy watching you develop as an artist, and I look forward to seeing how you will evolve.
