Artist Statement

Oscar Riquelme works with mixed media to create a compelling and broad visual language. His subject matter reflects concern for contemporary social issues; most commonly depicted in figurative painting and conceptual interactive installation. Mapu Apeu (Tales from the Land) is Riquelme's most recent series--a collection of paintings created after a four month tour through the South American Amazon, conceptualizing themes of deforestation. More specifically, highlighting the duality of environmental damage and nature reclaiming lost ground, and linking the relationship within the context of our complex global economy.
