Artist Statement

I’m a painter, and I’ve been working in Brooklyn since 1991. I often use images from old films in the public domain. I pick a shot that I find visually interesting, and which also may appeal to me for its banality, menace, goofiness, or oddness. I have affection for these movies, and I like finding remarkable, resonant images in unremarkable, obscure films. I work freehand from a photograph or a screen capture, or the screen itself, using a three-color palette.
