Artist Statement

Through an intuitive creative process, I arrive at figures that are not actual people, but fanciful imagined beings. At first repulsive, on further investigation these beings offer a playful and compassionate way of looking at our lives in a culture faced with increasing contradiction. We are living longer, yet our society remains obsessed with youth and fearful about aging and death. These paintings challenge the viewer to engage with the reality we turn away from. I began this series several years ago and recently returned to it, reworking some , beginning others new.
