Artist Statement

The focus of my work is people and sometimes involves the animal world. In sculpture I am a modeler. Working small pieces in wax, I cast them in bronze. This warm metal can capture the plasticity and emotion of my figurative forms. Plaster or structolite mixed with sisal fiber also allows me to move form--and build larger. Underlying my art is the hope or belief in the human potential for intelligence and compassion. As I work, it's almost as if the tension between these and other human propensities could be made visible--even resolved--in the successful resolution of a piece.
