Artist Statement

I approach systems of power through the voices of others. I am interested in the way that words contradict or mask intention, in the way that subterfuge is built into our daily negotiations, interactions, and associations.

In text drawings, I extract text from interviews, conversations, and video scripts by religious leaders, politicians, economists, and others. Through highly edited and arranged texts, I create overarching narratives that are continuous, containing a multitude of voices, often depicting a transformation from victim to victimizer. I am interested in the way contradicting perspectives can reside simultaneously in individual’s psyches.
